Color Overlay

Step 1 File> Open> DVD> Step-by-step files> '1O The robe'.

Step 2 To remove the color from a photograph go to Effects> Tonal Control> Adjust Color and move the Saturation slider fully to the left ( 139). Step 3 Add a paper texture to the picture, Effects> Surface Control> Apply Surface Textures, select Paper in the Using box and 5O% as the Amount. In the Papers palette choose French Watercolor Paper. Figure 1O.16 shows this stage.

Step 4 Choose a color in the Color palette, a light orange or similar. Go to Effects> Surface Control> Color Overlay. Select Paper in the Using box, 1OO% opacity and Dye Concentration.

Step 5 The picture looks rather dull as you can see in Figure 1O.17, so the next step is to brighten it and it is best to do this on a duplicate layer. Make the Layer Adjuster tool active, Select> All then holding down the

Alt/Opt key, click in the picture area. This will make a copy of the canvas.

Step 6 With the duplicate layer active go to Effects> Tonal Control> Brightness and Contrast and move both sliders to the right. Step 7 Certain parts of the picture, the arm in particular, will be over bright, so click on the mask icon to make a layer mask. Click in the mask to activate it then using the Digital Airbrush size 242.2, opacity 2% paint over the brightest areas with black, the mask will then reveal the original, darker layer beneath.
