Felt Pens

Felt Pens are graphic tools and are best used for pictures that need a strong energetic style. One of the distinguishing characteristics of Felt Pens is that when you repeat brush strokes the density increases and the color builds quite quickly to black. Most of the Felt Pens in this category work on this same principle.

The Design marker is very rough and increases the contrast and color quite strongly.

In the last two examples the Method has been changed to Grainy Hard Cover Cloning and paper texture changed to a different pattern. Using this method the pens no longer build to black.

Blunt Tip

The Art Marker was used for this picture which gave a rough unfinished look but with quite a lot of impact. The brush was on the default settings but with the Clone Color option selected. Brush sizes were between 8.0 and 24.0 and opacity 10%.

Another layer of texture was applied this time based on the image luminance.

The textures added to the overall appearance of the finished picture and helped to harmonize together the brush strokes.

The procedure for adding surface textures is covered in Chapter 6.

The original photograph of the balloon canopy was shot from inside the balloon while it was being inflated. Once the first stage of the clone copy was finished as shown in Figure 3.55, a surface texture was added based on the paper pattern, which was Basic Paper.
